Today we (and by we I mean Megan) organized a trip to the Nairobi Wildlife Center to visit the elephant orphanage and giraffe center. The whole drive there everyone was giddy and excited to see the baby elephants and to feed the giraffes. Upon arriving at the elephant orphanage we quickly paid and ran to get spots to make sure we wouldn’t miss anything. The orphanage is only open to the public for one hour every week so we knew it would get crowded. All of a sudden there were a bunch of little elephants all running toward us. I think I died a little. It was probably the cutest thing I have ever seen. The keepers fed them milk out of bottles and then they got to run around, drink out of the buckets, and visit with the crowd. There was only a single rope separating us from the elephants so when they came close enough it was easy to pet them. One of the keepers announced each elephant’s name and the story of how they became orphans. The youngest elephant was only a month old and was so tiny! They then brought out another group of elephants that were older (around 2-3years) to visit with us. Over the course of the hour I think I managed to take about 250 pics. It was one of the best hours ever! Afterwards we hopped back in our van and headed to the giraffe center. At the center we got in with the local rate by showing them our Kenyan pupils passes which made us feel super legit. We got a handful of pellets to feed the giraffes and laughed as their giant blue tongues slobbered all over us. Some people were even able to kiss them by holding the pellets in their mouths. We pet the giraffes and took lots of pics before grabbing some vegetable samosas at the café and heading back home. Overall BEST DAY EVERRRR!
